Year 10 Student Wins Best Solo Performance in Street Dance Championships
Year 10 student Daisy Herron has won best U16 solo performance in the United Dance Organisation (UDO) Six Nations Street Dancing Championships. The exciting dance competition was held in Prestatyn Wales on the weekend of 10th to 12th November. Talented Daisy was awarded 1st place for her stunning solo performance which she choreographed herself. Incredibly, UDO rules state that in the solo category, contestants are not permitted to know the music they will expected to dance prior to the competition. Within a few seconds of hearing the surprise tune they must skilfully and instantaneously create a dance to meet the prescribed beat, which is very challenging. Following on from this, Daisy and her Duo partner Year 10 Alice Jones from Beaumont Secondary School won second place in the U16 doubles; and finally, Daisy and a crew of ten others went onto winning second place in the U18 category.
This overall consistently impressive performance means Daisy has now qualified for the UDO World Championships in Scotland in August 2018 and the Europeans in Germany in May 2018. Daisy said ‘when I heard the news, I was shocked and totally speechless. I kept thinking: can this be really happening to me?’
Daisy attends NSG Performing Arts School in St Albans and is currently busy rehearsing for her current role at the St Albans Arena Pantomime production of Aladdin alongside fellow STAGS students Lilly Golding (Year 8) and Anna McKee (Year 9). This will be her seventh consecutive year of being in the St Albans pantomime. This year’s production of Aladdin, will run from December 7th to January 7th at the Alban Arena.
