STAGS Rotary Interact Club Rise Up to the Chalmer’s Business Challenge
On Wednesday 28th July members of STAGS Rotary Interact Club welcomed Rotary District Governor of Herts Beds and Bucks Chalmers Cursley to review the results of the business challenge he set them to help raise funds for the Purple for Polio campaign.
Back in May Chalmers gave STAGS club a box of 100 Typhoo tea bags and a jar of Tiptree Greengage Jam and encouraged them to come up with a business idea to turn those given items into £50. In response STAGS Rotary Club successfully sold tea and scones with a variety of jam and cream at break times from Tuesday 2nd May – Friday12th May. In addition they also gave those who spent over £1 free entry to a raffle and sold purple crocus broaches. The main raffle prize was a very handsome teddy bear smartly dressed in a ‘purple for polio’ jumper which was won by Mrs Buckley, Head of Languages.
The STAGS Interact Club successfully rose to the challenge by turning Chalmer’s gifts into £127.00, exceeding his expectations. The district Governor said ‘I am very impressed by STAGS fund raising, in fact I think you are all budding entrepreneurs!’. He delighted the girls by announcing that the 57 district clubs that he represents would like to match the amount STAGS Interact Club had made, increasing their total to £254.00. A cheque for the amount was proudly presented to STAGS Vice President Year 10 pupil Munthaha Ahmed who was very happy to accept.
Thank you to all those who supported the purple for polio campaign by making generous donations and those who bought broaches, scones and tea. We also especially thank Chalmers and all members of the district Rotary Club who kindly agreed to double the STAGS total for purple for polio. The STAGS final amount comes to £705.00. This will be tripled by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which is simply amazing!
