Talented U12 East of England Fencing Champion To Compete for England.

Talented U12 East of England

Congratulations to Year 7 pupil Thisbe Danford who was recently offered a place in the England Fencing Team for the Under 13 age group after a solid performance in the British Youth Championships held in Sheffield. This event, combined with others across the year, meant that she ranked 6th overall in Great Britain.

Thisbe’s season this year has been incredible. She has won medals in all three tournaments she entered so far, achieving a Gold, Silver and Bronze in each. In addition, she has also retained her title as East of England Champion. This valuable experience will stand her in good stead for when she competes in the International event ‘Challenge Wratislavia’ due to be held in Wroclaw Poland on March 26. She will be one of the youngest competitors in the U13 category.

Thisbe started fencing when she was 7 years old. Her mother spotted her talent whilst she was ‘stick fighting’ with a friend and decided to enrol her into a fencing club. Whilst in Wroclaw Thisbe will be joined in the England squad by six of her local teammates from the Paul Davis Fencing Academy – an impressive record for a young club who actively promote fencing as a sport accessible to everyone.

STAGS community arevery proud of Thisbe and wish her every success in the International event and her future fencing career.
