World Book Day Becomes ‘World Book Week’ at STAGS!
A fabulous festival of books took over the school last week. In celebration of World Book Day, a series of events were organised to mark this special day in the literary calendar.
Our celebrations began on Monday, with a visit from popular local children’s author Camilla Chester. Camilla spoke to a group of Year 7 students, and signed copies of her book ‘Jarred Dreams.’
On Tuesday our school ‘Book Swap’ began. This popular annual event drew a crowd of excited students to the Library with armfuls of books to swap. Over 120 books were brought in and delighted readers left the Library with some exciting ‘new’ reads. Staff held their own version of the book swap in the staff room, and also shared an excerpt from their favourite book with students at the beginning of each lesson on Tuesday.
An exciting form competition took place on Wednesday, when students were invited to design their own book cover and blurb. The World Book Day tokens were distributed to each form. Thursday was officially World Book Day 2017 and we were thrilled to welcome to the school Sally Nicholls the author of our STAGS Reads book ‘An Island of Our Own’. Sally met a group of specially invited students in the Library and then gave a talk in the Hall to Years 7 and 8, after which she met students and signed copies of her books.
Our final event of the week took place on Friday when we had a dress up day for Years 7 and 8. Staff were also allowed to participate, which they did with considerable enthusiasm! Harry Potter seemed to be the most popular choice for staff!
Thank you very much to everyone for helping to make World Book Day 2017 at STAGS so successful!
