Year 9 Netball Win District Plate
On Friday 7 April, our Year 9 squad took on Roundwood Park School in the District Plate final at STAGS. This event was the pinnacle of the season for a group of girls who train extremely hard, are highly dedicated and out performed numerous opponents through the knockout stages of the competition. STAGS took the lead instantly, showing their skill and focus in the first quarter. Catherine Buck was on form in her position as WA, not only feeding the ball well into the shooting circle but also taking interceptions whilst defending. The quarter finished 4-2 to STAGS.
The second quarter saw the determined girls working together to bring the ball fluently down the court to our shooters, Grace Moule and Anna Lofts who efficiently outwitted their opponents to shoot and score. At half time the score was 9-4 to STAGS.
Heading into the third quarter, STAGS took the opportunity to show their depth in talent with some changes to the formation and fresh legs coming onto court. Once settled, the team rose above, and the defensive end was unbeatable with Lottie Peterkin and Alice Drury effectively reading the game to gain interceptions. Going into the final quarter, the score was 16-7.
Calm play from Maddy Stanley and Jess Simpson allowed the shooters to work the circle in order to gain a safe shooting position. Gemma Hanson, who was a late addition to the team, proved why she should be there and out played her defence, calmly putting away the goals. At the final whistle the score was 20-14 to STAGS seeing the girls crowned District Plate Champions! Fantastic performances from every player, outwitting their opponents and effectively applying their tactics earned them the victory. Player of the match was Laura Gifford for her superb defensive play.
I would like to thank all Year 9 netballers for their commitment and dedication this season as we look forward to the next!
