Young Writers: The Poetry Games

This year, to celebrate National Poetry Day, students across Key Stage 3 were encouraged to write their own poem, which could be entered for the Young Writer’s Poetry competition: Truth or Dare. This activity was a great way to engage students with poetry writing by finding a subject that appeals to them. The aim was for the girls to express their views and opinions using nothing but words. The task consisted of two teams: Team Truth empowered students to pour out their hopes for the year or present a current truth in their life; whereas, Team Dare facilitated students with the passion to present an  important issue, thus encouraging their readers to think. Throughout KS3,  students fully engaged with the task: highlighting insightful concepts and ideas; experimenting with different forms of poetry; and engaging readers  using a variety of literary techniques. Well done to everyone involved,  especially those who were successfully published by Young Writers.
