J Club Share the Fun of Chanukah

Jewish Festival of Lights
On Monday lunchtime, J Club shared the fun of Chanukah, the Jewish Festival of Lights, with the School community. A favourite tradition of this celebration is to eat sufganiyot (jam doughnuts). This is to symbolise the miracle that occurred when the lamp in the temple lasted for 8 days instead of just one; hence the custom to eat delicious oily foods. We had 100 mini doughnuts to offer our fellow STAGS students and they were all thoroughly enjoyed! To get a doughnut, students had to write a pledge on a paper candle as to how they were going to help to bring light into the darkness, in honour of these light bringing festivities. It was wonderful to see so many students from all different year groups join in and some even offering their thought provoking pledge without the sticky doughnut reward. We wish everyone at STAGS all the best for this festive season and hope you are all able to bring a bit more light into the dark winter this year. Chag Sameach (Happy Holidays!)
