Year 8 Students Create Their Own Vile and Versatile Villains
This half term, several Year 8 classes have been studying various literary villains from Lady Macbeth to Bill Sykes to Voldemort. This exciting new Scheme of Learning culminated in students creating their own villain and introducing their terrifying character to the class through an interactive presentation. All students were able to explain their inspirations, identify what archetypal villain their character was, and create fascinating backstories revealing why their ‘baddies’ are so hell-bent on revenge! All had to write a detailed description of their protagonist and explain their choices for dress, alter egos and sidekicks. The presentations were engaging and creative with storyboards, analysis of costume choice, illustrations of lairs, quizzes and filmed adverts. The students relished the opportunity to be imaginative and really enjoyed the project.
“After reading about so many villains it was great to come up with our own despicable character!” - Eleanor Mitchley
“I really enjoyed working in a group, it was fun to be able to be creative and use different skills for our assessed presentation.” - Isabella Hammond
“We were inspired by Marvel characters such as Thor and Nick Fury, and created an anti-villain who had a sympathetic backstory.” - Daniela Damiani
