36 GCSE Dancers had a fantastic, inspirational night at the theatre on Tuesday 25th September. We were lucky enough to watch English National Ballets, Giselle. This version was choreographed by Akram Khan, one of the leading contemporary choreographers in the country. His background, having trained in classical Southeast Asian dance, mixed with his contemporary training, gave an unusual twist to this classical story. The students, were blown away by the energy and strength of the dancers and coupled with an impressive new orchestration that reverberated through our bodies, left them almost speechless. Students are now tasked with writing a review of the performance, I will share some of these with you when they are complete.
Seeing a live performance in the beautiful Sadlers Wells theatre, is an experience I try to give each of our GCSE Dance students, as it thoroughly inspires their performance and choreographic skills. You can keep up with all things dance, by following our twitter, STAGSdance, @Stags_dance.
