Fairtrade Fortnight Returns to STAGS

Over the last two weeks Eco Reps and KS5 Green Leaders have been focusing on celebrating and promoting Fairtrade Fortnight. Fairtrade is important because it helps to raise awareness about where our everyday products originate from and who is involved in the process.

The aim of our stall was to help promote Fairtrade in our school community through selling products which were developed ethically. These included choco-late, biscuits and handmade items such as lotus candles, bangles and tealight holders which could be gifts for Mother’s Day.

We also wanted to raise awareness about the poor conditions many farmers and producers around the world experience. In being part of Fairtrade, farmers receive a fair and equal pay in order to improve their quality of life. Through the help of pledges and the products sold, we achieved our aim of encouraging students and staff to purchase Fairtrade where possible.

As Joné Esterhuysen in Year 10 says "what Fairtrade do as an organisation is incredible and life changing for those in developing companies, and having the privilege to spread the word about them by helping with the stall was amazing."
