How will they be assessed?
Within students planners there is a page (pg 126) to record their assessment within each sport. Students will be given an assessment grid that they can refer to. They will be assessed on four areas for each sport with an average grade given:-
- Developing skills
- Decision Making
- Physical and Mental attributes
- Evaluating and improving
What support will be needed?
- Encourage students to attend extra-curricular clubs.
- Ensure the correct kit for all lessons.
What will be studied?
Continued Physical Education during Key Stage 4 is essential to develop both physical fitness but also mental wellbeing and team work. It gives students the opportunity to experience new sports and activities to encourage lifelong participation beyond St Albans Girls’ School.

Learning Methods
All students continue to study core PE for three hours per fortnight.
Students will work practically. They will develop their analysis and observational skills, leadership and fitness levels.
How is the course assessed?
A variety of practical activities take place; there is no formal assessment.
What equipment is needed?
Full and complete PE kit
Post 16
What will be studied?
Students select their activities for a 10 week block, options include:
- Badminton
- Batchwood Gym
- Diva Fit
- Fencing
- Fitness class
- First Aid
- Power Hoop
- Self Defence
- Team sports
These activities use outside facilities and coaches. Parents are asked to contribute to the costs incurred.
Students can also opt to take Sports Leadership Level 2 and Level 3.
Level 2 Qualification in Sports Leadership (SL2)
Level 2 Qualification in Community Sports Leadership (CSL2)
Level 3 Qualification in Sports Leadership (HSL3)
How is the course assessed?
Sports Leadership is internally assed and requires students being observed leading a sports based session and an event. Students then have to complete a number of hours to demonstrate their leadership- 10 for level 2 and 30 for level 3.
What equipment is needed?
Trainers and appropriate sports clothing for the activity they are undertaking.
