St Albans Girls' School

Curriculum

St Albans Girls’ School is a place to thrive. We provide an ambitious, broad and balanced curriculum that is rich in knowledge and opportunity designed to enable all students to achieve their potential.

At the heart of our curriculum is the excellent support of our learners, which ensures not only academic success but personal development of the individual. The curriculum is planned to ensure that it is engaging, enjoyable and promotes a love of learning. The curriculum encourages each student to develop their intellectual, physical and personal qualities, to follow their passion and reach their potential. This enables each student to appreciate their cultural heritage and the needs and opportunities of the modern world.

Our intention is to:

  • Promote outstanding learning for life through the delivery of engaging and inspiring lessons

  • Foster a culture of excellence in all learners, encourage a spirit of enquiry and have high expectations to encourage learners to be ambitious and aspirational in their approach

  • Provide breadth of knowledge and depth of understanding enabling students to master the essential skills necessary for success in every subject

  • Encourage student’s confidence, self-esteem and sense of individual purpose so that they may contribute positively to society

  • Challenge all learners by providing a rich variety of learning opportunities regardless of their ability, ethnicity or social background

  • Develop creativity and innovation, critical abilities and independence of thought for lifelong learning

  • Provide a broad curriculum which values the strengths of each subject and student equally and engenders the need for adaptability, inclusivity and sustainability

  • Prepare our students for the next stage of their education and training

Our curriculum is subject to constant review to keep abreast of the latest educational research and development, in conjunction with a consistent focus on the National Curriculum. We embed careers and RSE education within our KS3-5 PSHE curriculum and ensure through a carousel timetable that students in Year 7-9 receive a fullsome range of creative options in Design and Technology and Performing Arts.

Please contact Mr Markou with any queries about the curriculum.
