Special Educational Needs and/or Disability (SEN/D)
At St Albans Girls' School, we ensure every student reaches their full potential, regardless of any barriers to learning. We are deeply committed to our SEND support, empowering students to thrive and consistently achieve beyond expectations.
At STAGS, we are ambitious for all our students, including those with SEND. Our approach is high quality teaching, ensuring every learner has effective opportunities to make progress.
As an inclusive school, we firmly believe every student - regardless of ability, background or ethnicity - has the right to access a full curriculum, participate in all aspects of school life and reach their full potential.
Admissions for all students, including those with Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans, disabilities and Looked After Children, are coordinated by the Local Authority. A copy of our Admissions Policy can be found here.
Information about Hertfordshire’s Local Offer for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) can be found on Hertfordshire County Council’s website here. Our provision and aims are fully aligned with the statutory SEND Code of Practice.

Learning Support Department
The SEND at STAGS Team
SEND support is delivered through close collaboration between classroom teachers, the pastoral team and the Learning Support Department, led by SENDCO and Deputy Headteacher, Miss Lambert.
We use individual, student focused Spotlight Profiles to inform teachers of required adaptations, supporting high quality adaptive teaching across all subjects.
Parents and carers can meet with the SENDCO by booking a SENDCO surgery appointment and every family maintains regular contact with a named key contact within the STAGS SEND team.

They also play an important role supporting students who we feel need more focused monitoring.
Education Health Care Plans
If your child has an Educational Health Care Plan then appropriate provision will be put in place to ensure they are fully supported. If you are a prospective parent of a student with an EHCP then all admissions to schools must be through the SEND Team in your local authority.
