Our main focus at Post 16 is to inspire and prepare students for life after St Albans Girls' School, whatever their aspirations may be.
We aim to develop their decision-making and problem-solving skills as well as their independence, whilst educating them about the higher education and careers options available to them.
We are very proud of our sixth form students, who play a full and active role in the life of the school. It is their dedication, infectious enthusiasm, maturity and willingness to take on new challenges which makes our Sixth Form what it is.
We recognise what an important time this is in any young person's life and the Sixth Form team are dedicated in their support of our students providing advice, guidance, support and expertise to help them reach their goals and fulfil their potential.
Expectations are high in the Sixth Form and we have an emphasis on excellence. This is seen throughout the Sixth Form experience, whether that be through the quality learning opportunities, the breadth of subjects on offer, student leadership, careers advice or support of applications for Higher Education.
Being a part of St Albans Girls' School should be seen as an accomplishment, a place which has a wide range of opportunities suitable for each and every student.
The decision to continue my education at St Albans Girls' School wasn’t one that could be rushed, but it is something I do not regret. These two years are such an important time, and I wanted to be in a place where I was certain that I would be supported both inside and outside the classroom, by my teachers, friends and by the pastoral support team. I chose to stay at St Albans Girls' School for the unique opportunities that I was offered; the wide variety of subjects, super curricular activities and leadership roles. There was a wealth of things that appealed to me, and there are opportunities that suit everyone, no matter what you enjoy. One of the biggest factors in my decision, besides the coffee and cake at 'Rachel’s café', was that I knew that all the teachers are passionate about their subjects and want us all to succeed. That for me was so inspiring and something I am extremely grateful for.
Going into the Sixth Form is an exciting challenge, but at this time it feels particularly important to know that you are being fully supported, both academically and pastorally. Within the sixth form centre, the team have an open-door policy, meaning that there is always someone happy to help you if you need to discuss and resolve any problems. In addition to this, if you ever feel like you need extra support (whether this is linked to your lessons or not), there is a mentoring programme, and within this, students attend regular meetings with the teacher that has been assigned as their mentor for. For most subjects there are also regular clubs and extra support classes that can review anything you may be finding more challenging. One of the most important things I find at St Albans Girls' School is that you are supported not only by your teachers, but also by your peers and this creates a great community to work and grow in.
St Albans Girls' School means a lot to us. For me, it is where I have grown up, met my friends, had my ups, downs, and everything in between. It’s where I have developed my passions and my goals. I know that since I joined in Year 7, this school, and all the people in it, have made me who I am today. My teachers have made me hard working, and my friends have taught me what it means to be kind and compassionate. What St Albans Girls' School means to me is an environment where I know the amazing community around me will provide the best support, and encouragement needed to ensure achievement both inside the classroom, and out. My greatest successes have come from this school, and I can’t think of a place which has had more of a positive effect on my life.
I am proud to say I am part of the STAGS Sixth Form, I know you will be too. We would love you to continue your journey here at St Albans Girls' School, and become part of our Sixth Form family.
